January 27, 2023 January 29, 2023

About Dyer Sensei

Christine Dyer started her practice in 1986 in Southern California, where she took classes from James Nakayama Sensei (Nanadan), who is still her instructor. She was a founding member of Chushinkan Dojo, established by Nakayama Sensei in 1990 and now located in Buena Park, California. Chushinkan Dojo affiliated with the Aikido Association of America (AAA) in 1990, and for ten years, their aikido was heavily influenced by the late Fumio Toyoda Shihan. During the 1990s and 2000s, Christine assisted Nakayama Sensei at seminars throughout the United States and Europe, and visited Japan to train at Aikikai Hombu Dojo (Aikido world headquarters). In 2005 she was appointed to the AAA’s National Teaching Committee and began teaching solo seminars. She moved to Utah in 2009, and in 2014 spent a month training in Japan as a live-in student of Yasuo Kobayashi Shihan. She is currently ranked Godan through Hombu Dojo. Her emphasis in teaching Aikido is to help students explore how and why techniques work. In addition to Aikido, Christine also practices Iaido and was awarded the rank of Nidan by Zen Nippon Iaido Renmei (All Japan Iaido Federation), and Yondan in Nishio Ryu.
