Bringing my child to BMAI has been the single best thing I have done as a parent. His listening skills, his respect for himself and others, and his willingness to try challenging tasks increase every week.

Training with Sensei Best was one of the defining activities of my years as an elementary-to-high school student. I trained in the main program of Karate/Taekwondo for 8 years. Out of everything I had to leave behind once I left for college, “The Dojo” is by far the thing I’ve missed the most. Sensei Best and his fellow instructors have created a truly wonderful place to learn and train. You will be hard pressed to find a better community of people who will listen, teach you discipline, teach you how to use and train your body, and teach you the wisdom of when and when not to use force. Their teaching has served as an example for me throughout my own career as an educator.

Alan Best is uniquely talented in providing a safe, noncompetitive martial arts program for children that promotes self esteem, self confidence, and self control. Both my children attended Best Martial Arts Institute, and I often recommend the program to my patients and their families.

The staff at Best Martial Arts Institute are among the best teachers of children in any subject we have ever known.

Sensei Best has a gift. It is the mix of physical expertise and generosity of spirit. He taught our son for years, and helped to weave him into a confident young man.

I trained at Best Martial Arts Institute for about 8 1/2 years before moving from the Eugene area. Of all the things I miss by moving away Sensei Best, the other instructors and the students are what I miss the most. Sensei Best has the belief that members of the Dojo are a family and when you go there you really start to become part of the Dojo family. Sensei Best is indeed a highly qualified martial artist who has developed an Institute for the study of martial arts not just a martial arts school. This is not a school where you go a couple of years and walk away with a black belt. This is a family friendly school dedicated to the study of martial arts. I highly recommend BMAI to anyone seriously interested in martial arts training and especially to familes.

The program is wonderful because it teaches children to work hard and have fun without immediately receiving something in return for their efforts. The perseverance, love and joy of learning is reflected in the children taking the classes.

This is a fantastic class! We like how the instructors tie together martial arts with character development and strong morals for daily life.

Excellent instructors, friendly atmosphere and superior quality of teaching…one of our favorite classes ever.

I have really appreciated the focus on skill, but even more so on character – good sportsmanship, kindness, respect, etc. The class is a very positive experience for my child.

Martial arts had such a maturing influence on my son, I decided to enroll myself.

Aikido, I have found, is a never-ending pursuit that only becomes more intriguing as time moves forward. It is a way of self-defense, a way of maintaining physical fitness and flexibility, an activity that promotes friendship, a spiritual path, and most of all, simply a lot of fun. I would encourage anyone, regardless of age or physical ability to give it a try — and I can think of no better group of people to pursue this art with than the members of Aikido of Eugene.
My family and I moved to Eugene, Oregon in 2008. As a displaced Midwesterner, I felt somewhat out of touch with West Coast culture, however, I found an immediate sense of community and friendship with the people at this school.
The instructors are highly skilled and are open and engaging. I have never known them to have anything other than the best interests of the individual student as their primary concern. The classes are open to all levels of ability and designed to promote personal growth and a sense of fellowship.
I hope you can stop in and see what we’re about. There’s always a spot open for you on the mat.
